GED language arts is part of the GED course and is mainly related to three areas of study. These areas include reading comprehension, writing and language conventions. The course has a lot of topical issues which enable the learner to have a good understanding of English as a language and also its grammatical constructions. Reading comprehension has many topical issues which help a learner to easily comprehend texts and readings of different nature. It provides one with different reading and comprehension skills.
The learner is introduced to various fundamental topics like English comprehension tips, summarizing texts, synthesizing text and many other important topics. These are useful skills which are important in reading comprehension. One is able to learn how to interpret texts with ease by applying the various practical reading skills that are discussed in the various topics. There is also a topic on textual support for interpretation which prepares the student to know how to effectively use a given text to interpret what has been presented in any given reading.
The other area that is covered are topics that are related to the practice of writing. Here, there are topics that are related to composition planning and writing in which a student is exposed to the best methods of planning and writing good and presentable compositions and essays. One also learns to acquire the right material from credible information sources which also includes the drafting of a thesis statement and body paragraphs. This is important because it enables one to know how to structure his/her writings in the right manner. This area also covers topics in revisions and proof reading which are important to any literary work. It introduces one to the best practices that are used in writing.
The other area is concerned with language conventions which is mainly concerned with issues to do with grammar. Different topics are found in this area which includes the functions and usage of different signs such as the commas and exclamation marks. There are topics which teaches one the proper usage of such signs including brackets, ellipses, semi colons and many others. These symbols are very important in writing and their proper usage improves the quality of writing. These symbols enables consistency in punctuation’s and improves the flow of any writing. This area helps the learn to improve on his/her grammar and at the same time use the right punctuations at the right places.
