NCLEX-RN: Frequently Asked Questions Answered!
What is the total time limit of the exam?
Examinees don’t have to worry about a short time limit on each question. Instead, you will have six (6) hours to finish the exam. In the beginning, you will receive a tutorial. The exam also does not have mandatory breaks. After the first two hours, you can, however, take an optional break. Similarly, after 3.5 hours, you can take another break from testing.
How many questions can you expect?
Examinees have to answer at least 75 questions out of 265 questions. Despite how many questions you answer, you will still get 15 experimental questions. Fortunately, these questions have no connotation with your overall ability to answer questions.
What is the measure to pass judgment?
Examinees receive the results in the pass or fail status rather than a typical numeral score. However, you will not obtain the results at the exam center or site. Instead, you will receive notification from your Nursing State Board after 2-4 weeks.
What happens if you fail the NCLEX-RN exam?
Failure of the exam shifts the attention of examinees to a diagnostic profile that assesses overall test performance. If you managed to answer a lot of questions, you would receive a passing grade. Also, you can utilize your diagnostic profile to spot your weak areas.
What is the NCLEX-RN retake policy?
You can retake the NCLEX-RN exam after 45 days of the first attempt. However, some states like Georgia have a different retake policy. Therefore, contact the state nursing board to find out more details and prepare accordingly.
What is the current passing rate of the NCLEX-RN exam?
According to the 2019-20 statistical report, the first-time examinees have a relatively high passing rate. However, the passing rate for repeated test-takers is significantly lower.
When can you expect the exam to end?
You can assume the end of the exam if you see minimum competency, lack of minimum proficiency, or maximum demonstration messages.
